A gap exists between the standards placed on students to read challenging text
and students ability to meet these expectations.
Current research has shown that the only way to bridge this gap is
through literacy instruction in all classrooms. This does not mean that every
science, math, and history teacher now needs to become a reading specialist, but
rather he needs the tools to make his approaches to text visible to students.
This is a hands-on, collaborative workshop for secondary teachers in all content
areas who want their students to read and understand challenging texts in their
respective disciplines.
