Hands-On
Language/Learning Development Program (H.O.L.D.)
The Hands-On Language and Learning Development (HOLD) Program
provided intensive language-based instruction for children who
cannot be served adequately in a regular or resource room setting.
The approach to instruction is language-based, experiential, and
multi-sensory, supporting the philosophy that children learn
language form, content, and usage more efficiently through
natural, everyday experiences. Hands-on activities introduce
and reinforce language and educational concepts. A
clinical/academic and individualized approach to intervention is
used.
The major component of the HOLD
Program is the Technical Opportunities Program (TOP) which is
housed at Bristol-Plymouth Regional Technical High School in
Taunton, MA. This is a dual enrollment program between READS
and Bristol-Plymouth. The program is designed to provide
intensive academic support to learning disabled students who hope
to achieve a high school diploma and proficiency in technical
area. In addition to offering intensive, individually
designed academic programming, students also receive individual
and small group services from a READS School Adjustment
Counselor and a READS Speech and Language Pathologist as needed.
Those interested in this program are encouraged to make inquiries
in grade seven and no later than December of grade eight, if
possible.
