READS partners with Early Intervention Agencies throughout the southeast region to provide services for children with hearing loss from birth to age 3.  Intervention may consist of speech/language therapy; American Sign Language acquisition; Cochlear Implantation follow-up and support; education on hearing aid care; language and learning development; and the development of communication skills tailored to the child and family. Many services are provided in the families' home.  

READS also provides a small group intervention for toddlers as group participation is feasible for parents.  During the time of the child group, there is also a parent support group. Parents discuss information pertinent to their child's development and communication. At times, guest speakers are available to present about specific topics. 

READS coordinates with early intervention agencies to maximize each child's potential and to assist the family in developing communication skills.

The staff members of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Program who provide services for Early Intervention may include speech pathologists, developmental specialists, teachers of the Deaf, and counselors.
